In this event, you'll first join a guided tour of Engyoji Temple led by a monk and a local guide. Afterwards, you will take part in a "Zazen" (zen meditation) session inside Jōgyō-dō, a sacred hall typically closed to the public. In the serene silence of this historical space, you’ll take a moment to step away from daily life and reconnect with yourself. You will also have the rare chance to engage in conversation with a real Buddhist monk — an invaluable experience. Next, enjoy a Japanese tea ceremony workshop with an instructor for table-style tea ceremony who will teach you how to properly prepare matcha. Savor the tea you made yourself, accompanied by traditional Japanese sweets. The workshop will be held in Jūji-in, a beautifully atmospheric building that once served as a dressing room for a famous Hollywood actor. Tea has long been valued in Japan for its calming effects, once used like medicine in daily life. To conclude the event, take a moment of calm reflection and breathe deeply as you enjoy your final cup of tea — a peaceful ending to a rich cultural journey. After the program ends, you are free to continue exploring the grounds of Engyoji Temple at your own pace, surrounded by beautiful nature and historical architecture.
