Create Traditional Japanese Sweets with Long-Established Artisans in Himeji Join a special hands-on experience where you can connect with Japan’s traditional confectionery culture and the spirit of craftsmanship at a historic wagashi (Japanese sweets) shop that has been loved for over 100 years. Located in the castle town below Himeji Castle, Kineya is a long-standing confectionery shop cherished by both locals and travelers for generations. Each sweet is carefully handcrafted by skilled artisans, reflecting the beauty of the four seasons, local traditions, and Japan’s tea ceremony culture. The result is a selection of exquisite creations that are as beautiful as they are delicious. In this experience, you’ll learn directly from professional confectioners how to shape and fill traditional nerikiri or jo-namagashi sweets. Watching live demonstrations and crafting with your own hands, you’ll discover the Japanese spirit of hospitality (omotenashi) and the refined sense of beauty embedded in every gesture. This program welcomes participants of all ages—from children to seniors—and is perfect for creating unique travel memories or a handmade gift for family and friends. After the workshop, you can take home the sweets you made yourself. You’ll also enjoy tasting professionally crafted wagashi paired with matcha green tea, while hearing stories from the shop owner about the history and philosophy passed down through generations. In the calm, nostalgic atmosphere of Himeji’s castle town, it’s a moment to relax, connect, and experience the warmth and depth of Japanese culture. Immerse yourself in the rich wagashi tradition of Himeji, handed down for over a century, and enjoy a sensory journey through Japan’s beauty and craftsmanship. Please note: Photos are for reference. The types of sweets vary depending on the season. ■ Program Overview Time: 1:00 p.m. / 3:00 p.m. Duration: approx. 1 hour 30 minutes Locations: ① Kineya Nikaimachi Main Store 95 Nikaimachi, Himeji, Hyogo Google Maps Please arrive at the venue 10 minutes before the start time. ② Kineya Shosha Okashi-no-Sato 1086 Shosha, Himeji, Hyogo 671-2201 Google Maps Please arrive at the venue 10 minutes before the start time.
